How Does the Endowment Make a Difference?
Endowments play a crucial role in helping college students succeed by providing financial stability and resources that enhance the educational experience. They fund scholarships, reducing the financial burden on students and allowing them to focus on their studies. Additionally, endowments support faculty research and innovative programs, enriching the academic environment and offering students opportunities for hands-on learning and mentorship.
Portfolio Performance
Pomona College’s endowment has consistently outperformed benchmarks over multiple time horizons. Over the last 10 years, Pomona’s annual return has been 7.4%, exceeding both our strategic policy benchmark and a simple benchmark of 70% stocks and 30% bonds.
Growth of the Endowment
Over the last 40 years, Pomona's endowment has grown to $3 billion dollars, while providing over $2 billion dollars to support Pomona's educational mission. Over this timeframe, prudent investment decisions have helped the endowment outperform public markets, as represented by a portfolio of 70% stocks and 30% bonds, and provided an additional $660 million dollars to support research, faculty salaries, and scholarships.
